Holiday over - back to square one :)

Hello!

Back from my holiday times!  I went away with 15 stone 6.75lbs under my top and I came back with 15 stone 7.25lbs under my top :) which I am absolutely thrilled with!

My lowest weighin before my birthday had gotten down to 15 stone 4lbs, but with a few meals out and a couple of bottles of booze, that went up to 6.75lbs pretty quickly :)

I had the best holiday that anyone could ever have! We went to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles, Yosemite park and San Francisco. For 2.5 weeks.

It was wonderful.

I had to take a few minutes though to talk about the differences between the UK and the US when it comes to portion sizes and restaurant meals.

I thought it was a bit of a joke when people talked about big portions in the US. I thought it was something that was relegated to the fast food restaurants to entice people in to eat in their particular chain.  Turns out it applies to the slightly more upmarket ones too!  We ate lunch in the cheesecake factory one day - I hear you, that's a fast food type place! I know, but stick with me! - and I ordered an Appetizer sized Caesar salad so that I would have space for a bit of the awesome cheesecake. Note. Appetizer sized.  The man had the cheek to say to me "Small salad" when he handed it to me!

The picture below is from when I had *FINISHED* eating.

I've never *seen* so much lettuce on one plate!!!

This was a recurring theme of the holiday.

Now, I can imagine that with people who live in America and who eat in restaurants that they get to take things home with them. That part of the appeal for going out for a meal is that they don't have to cook anything for their lunch tomorrow. However, for people like myself who are just passing through, maybe staying in a hotel and don't have the need or the ability to warm up food the next day then all you have here is a big plate of wasted food.

There are a lot of hungry and homeless people in these cities.

It makes me really sad.

I don't think there's anything I can do about it, but I just wanted to point out just how ridiculous these portion sizes are. I would rather pay half the price for a quarter of the food on the plate.

Thankfully I can recognise these days when I'm full, so my food addiction was kept under control for the majority of the time. Not when I had a pocketful of chocolates and a tin of Mountain Dew in my grubby little fist though :D

I had a great holiday :)

P.S. Frozen bananas are great!!
